European Academy of Bozen/Bolzano
The European Academy of Bozen/Bolzano (EURAC) lies in the heart of the Dolomites. Created in 1992 as an independent research center, EURAC is home to researchers from all over Europe who work together on a wide range of interdisciplinary projects. Experts in law and natural sciences, linguists and geneticists collaborate with public and private agencies towards the resolution of some central issues of our day. Together they contribute to create a future-oriented Europe.
The EURAC’s Institute for Renewable Energy conducts applied research in the fields of solar energy and energy efficiency. Its Energy Strategies and Planning research group is in charge of the coordination of the work package “Renewable energy potentials and conflicts”. In this task Eurac, in collaboration with the other partners, will assess the status quo of Alpine renewable energy production (scenarios, legal frameworks, stakeholders, processes, market drivers, etc.) and potentials for solar, forest biomass, wind and hydropower. An analysis of trade-offs between renewable energy production and conservation of biodiversity and ecosystem services will be carried out. In the process, the project team will identify strategies, targets and stakeholders at all policy levels.
